About Us
Safe and Sound Sanctuary provides a safe haven for dogs regardless of age, size, breed or temperament, who have been abandoned or surrendered by individuals and rescue groups or shelters and are designated to be destroyed. Animals that have entered our sanctuary system are also strays, particularly the stray and feral feline population, for whom we provide indoor and outdoor homes, routine, quality feeding, all aspects of veterinary care and even home placement, when appropriate.
The majority of our current canine residents are now senior dogs and most have extensive to severe behavioral issues which we attribute to genetic defaults. These dogs have been deemed unadoptable and cannot be rehomed due to the severity and complexity of their issues and will safely and happily remain at our sanctuary for their lifetime. This category of canines, unfortunately, is generally underserved and requires behavior expertise and careful handling with consistent management methods. Our extensive experience and background in working with difficult and aggressive behavior canines allows the sanctuary to successfully and lovingly meet the needs of these dogs in every aspect of their lives. We ensure that they enjoy all the aspects of companionship, fun, health, play and interaction that all well-cared for dogs enjoy.
Over the years, many difficult dogs have entered our sanctuary and have undergone behavior modification training and have been appropriately and successfully placed in the best matched homes. All of the dogs who enter our sanctuary undergo mandatory behavior and obedience training regardless of their behavior and regardless of their final placement status.
Safe and Sound Sanctuary provides all of the animals, whether canines or felines, with ongoing medical care and treatment, customized feeding, housing, grooming and daily socialization and exercise. Perhaps most importantly, we provide a lifetime home to those deemed unadoptable as well as a steadfast commitment to protect and provide for all of the animals that we serve and love.
Safe and Sound Sanctuary also advocates for dogs and cats that have been “found” as strays and brought to our facility. Our volunteers continue to provide searches for such lost animals by contacting and coordinating with all local shelters, provide postings, network with other groups and resources for “lost” animals in the hopes of returning home as many as possible. Those who are not claimed are transferred into the placement division where veterinary care is provided as needed and training for canines begins. Once complete, they are advertised as available for placement and we begin the interview process.
